Agartala, 21st July 2026; A group of students and youths continued their protest for the third consecutive day near the Circuit House in Agartala on Wednesday, demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and calling for comprehensive reforms in the country’s education system.
Carrying placards and raising slogans, the protesters alleged that corruption and irregularities in examinations have severely affected the future of deserving students. They maintained that the agitation is independent of any political affiliation and is focused solely on ensuring fairness, transparency and accountability in the education sector.
Speaking during the demonstration, participants said repeated incidents of alleged examination malpractice have weakened public trust in the system. They also criticised the reported police action against students protesting in Delhi, alleging that such measures undermine democratic values and the right to peaceful protest.
According to the demonstrators, the demand for the Education Minister’s resignation is part of a larger movement seeking institutional reforms and greater accountability. They argued that the minister should step down on moral grounds over the alleged failure to maintain transparency in the conduct of examinations.
The protesters placed four key demands before the government: resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, complete transparency in the education system, strict administrative accountability, and the eradication of corruption in examinations.
Describing the Agartala protest as an expression of solidarity with student movements in Delhi and other parts of the country, the demonstrators warned that their agitation would be intensified if the government failed to address their concerns. They also announced that the sit-in protest would continue until their demands are fulfilled.
