Students Protest Teacher Transfer in Santirbazar Over Staff Shortage Concerns

Date:

Agartala, 27th July 2026 :   Tension erupted at Kanchannagar West Bogafa Class XII School in Santirbazar subdivision following the transfer decision of long-serving Bengali teacher Subal Das amid an ongoing shortage of teachers in the institution.

On Monday morning, students locked the main gate of the school and staged a protest, demanding a review of the transfer decision. The protesting students said the school has been facing a shortage of teachers for a long time and the transfer of Subal Das, who had been serving at the school for nearly 15–20 years, left them disappointed and emotional.

Students claimed that removing an experienced and popular teacher would negatively affect the learning process and cause difficulties for them.

After receiving information about the protest, DCM Kakuli Saha reached the spot and held discussions with the students. She assured them that their concerns would be placed before the higher authorities of the Education Department. Following the assurance, the students withdrew their protest and removed the lock from the school gate.

Meanwhile, Santirbazar School Inspector Pranab Sarkar said that a new Bengali teacher has already joined the school in place of Subal Das, and assured that Bengali classes would not be affected.

However, students maintained that their protest was driven by their respect and attachment towards their long-serving teacher, along with concerns over the existing shortage of teachers. They demanded adequate teacher appointments to ensure a proper academic environment.

The incident has sparked discussions in the area, with parents, teachers, and students now awaiting further steps from the Education Department.
