Agartala, 3rd October 2025 : In a spirited celebration of Bijoya Dashami, the Panisagar Fisheries department organized a subsidized fish distribution program early this morning. The event took place at the office of the Fisheries Officer, aimed to provide quality fish to beneficiaries at government-supported prices.
The initiative was attended by Panisagar Nagar Panchayat Vice Chairman Dhananjay Debnath and Fisheries Officer Kamal Hussain, alongside other notable guests. Continuing the tradition from previous years, the department set a target to sell 200 kilograms of fish under the scheme.
Fish varieties such as Rohu, Katla, Mrigal, Chhapaputi, and Silver Carp were made available to the public. Prices were fixed at Rs 160 per kilogram for purchases below 1 kg and Rs 220 per kilogram for quantities above 1 kg.
The event drew an enthusiastic crowd of fish lovers, with long queues forming from early morning. For food-loving Bengalis, fish holds a cherished place in their culinary culture, and the festive timing added to the excitement. Inspired by the popularity of similar programs during Pohela Boishakh, the state fisheries department extended this initiative across Tripura, with Panisagar witnessing particularly high engagement.
