Sudhangshu chairs review meeting on works of West Tripura district Fisheries & Animal Resource Development departments

Agartala, 7th March 2024:   In a significant move to bolster the rural economy, the West Tripura District Fisheries and Animal Resources Development Department held a review meeting today. The meeting, chaired by Fisheries Minister Sudhangshu Das, took place in the conference hall of the West Tripura District Magistrate’s office.

The minister emphasized the crucial role of fisheries and animal husbandry in rural economic development. He stated that these sectors have been prioritized by the government in its rural development strategy. The meeting also reviewed the programs of the Scheduled Tribe Welfare Department of West Tripura district.

Minister Das highlighted the ongoing efforts of the Department of Fisheries, Livestock Development, and Scheduled Caste Welfare for the welfare of the state’s residents. He assured that these departments would be working on larger plans in the future to further enhance the welfare of the people.

The review meeting was attended by several key officials, including the Acting Sabhadipati of Paschim Tripura Zilla Parishad Haridulal Acharya, MLA Minarani Sarkar, Chairman of various Panchayat Samiti and BAC of the district, Principal Secretary of Fisheries Department BS Mishra, heads of the three concerned departments, other officials, and BDOs of various divisions of the district.

During the meeting, representatives from the Animal Resource Development Department reported that under the Chief Minister’s Swanirbhar Yojana, 3,436 families have received assistance for chicken rearing and 1,360 families have been supported in the district in the financial year 2023-24. Additionally, 450 families have received aid under the animal husbandry scheme.

The representative from the Department of Fisheries reported that 4,535 families have received assistance for fisheries under the Chief Minister’s Swanirbhar Parivar Yojana in the current fiscal year in West Tripura district. Furthermore, 98 families have received support under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampad Yojana, and 434 fishermen families have been provided assistance under the state scheme of the Department of Fisheries.

The representative of the Scheduled Caste Welfare Department reported that 52 individuals from the Scheduled Caste community have received pump machines, 307 individuals have received sewing machines, and 154 individuals have received bicycles in the current financial year.

Minister Das stressed the need for coordination between public representatives and government officials for the successful implementation of development programs. He mentioned the government’s initiatives to make the state self-sufficient in animal feed production and to make fishermen and animal husbandry self-reliant. He warned that without proper coordination, these initiatives would not succeed.
