Agartala, April 17, 2023: Tripura’s Transport Minister Sushanta Chowdhury participated in a high-level meeting in New Delhi under the chairmanship of Union Minister of Central Road Transport and Highways Department Nitin Gadkari in the presence of Ministers of Transport Departments of all states and Union Territories on Monday.
The meeting was held in detail to discuss various transport-related issues as well as find new and innovative solutions through mutual cooperation and consultation.
Keeping pace with technological advancement, the Central Department of Road Transport and Highways has taken several steps to develop future-ready road transport. The main driving force behind this move is security and sustainability.
In the meeting, the Union Minister laid special emphasis on promotion of renewable energy and de-carbonisation including incentives for electric vehicles, adoption of alternative fuels like hydrogen, ethanol blend, bio CNG etc., development of green highways etc.
Several initiatives for road safety such as road safety audits and remedial/corrective measures, provision of safety features in vehicles, electronic monitoring and enforcement, setting up of driver training institutes, rules on pedestrian safety, Voluntary Vehicle-Fleet Modernization Program (V-VMP) scrapped vehicles.
A detailed discussion was also held in the meeting about extracting valuable raw materials from resources and introducing resource reusability. Tripura Transport Minister Sushanta Chowdhury also participated in the meeting.
In the meeting, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari promised to improve the road and communication system of North East India.
