Agartala, 16th January 2025: Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Affairs Minister Sushanta Chowdhury on Thursday revealed plans to renovate the auditorium of Ramthakur College in Badharghat. During his visit, he outlined a comprehensive development roadmap, promising swift action and collaboration with local authorities.
Chowdhury stated, “I will instruct the HE Director to include the renovation proposal in the upcoming budget and discuss it with Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha. Until the renovation is complete, we plan to construct a shed in front of the newly built Mukta Mancha to accommodate 500 to 700 students.”
To expedite the shed’s construction, Minister Chowdhury and MLA Mina Rani Sarkar have pledged Rs 5 lakh each from their MLA funds. “Although this is not my constituency, I am committed to supporting this initiative. MLA Sarkar and I will coordinate with the respective SDMs to ensure completion within 6-7 months,” Chowdhury assured.
The initial estimated cost of the auditorium project was Rs 7 crore, now escalated to Rs 20 crore due to inflation. The project is expected to take 2-3 years to complete. Meanwhile, the shed will serve as a temporary solution.
Minister Chowdhury also praised students and faculty for organizing a blood donation camp, emphasizing the importance of such acts in serving society. The event commemorated the late Pramod Ranjan Bhatta Chowdhury, a notable figure in education.
Minister Chowdhury was accompanied by MLA Mina Rani Sarkar, Deputy Mayor Manika Das Datta, Higher Education Director Animesh Debbarma, and other dignitaries. The college community expressed optimism with the Minister’s assurance of prompt action and interim development plans.
Probably it is for the first time in the state, 16 Associate Professors of Ramthakur College has funded for the construction of “Pramod Mukta Mancha” in loving memory of College’s founder Pramod Ranjan Bhatta Chowdhury.
