Tension at RKM, Kailashahar as ABVP, TISF clash over deputation

Date:

Agartala, 2nd September 2026 : Tension gripped Ramakrishna Mahavidyalaya in Kailashahar on Wednesday after a confrontation broke out between the Tipra Indigenous Students’ Federation (TISF) and Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) during the submission of a memorandum.

The TISF had obtained prior permission from the college and administration to submit a deputation to the Principal at 1 pm. The memorandum sought an office and help desk for a proposed Students’ Counselling Body to assist students with academic guidance, scholarships, admissions and mental health support.

According to TISF members, ABVP supporters blocked the college’s main gate and raised “Go Back” slogans, leading to counter-slogans, heated exchanges and scuffles. Police and TSR personnel deployed at the spot intervened, but the situation remained tense for some time.

The situation was brought under control after the SDPO arrived and mediated between the groups. The TISF delegation was subsequently allowed to submit the memorandum to the college authorities with police assistance.
