Agartala, 27th April 2025: Extreme tension has gripped the Devipur Rajar Tilla area under Madhupur police station after a brutal attack allegedly carried out over a property dispute. Bhanulal Das, a local resident is currently battling for his life at a hospital after being severely beaten by his relatives.
Local sources informed, Dilip Das, Pradip Das and Tapan Das—sons of Kshitish Das, a local figure affiliated with the ruling party—attacked the helpless Bhanulal Das at his residence. “They tried to kill him with sharp weapons and beat him mercilessly with sticks and blunt objects,” a local resident said on condition of anonymity.
Eyewitnesses reported that after hearing Bhanulal Das’ cries for help, neighbors rushed to the scene and immediately took him to Madhupur Primary Health Center. Given the seriousness of his injuries, he was later referred to Asthma Hospital for advanced treatment.
Meanwhile, following the attack, the accused—along with Anjana Das and Suniti Das allegedly looted valuables from the house, including two gold chains, important documents and rubber worth approximately Rs 2 lakh. “After the incident, all the accused fled from their house,” confirmed an officer from Madhupur police station, adding that a case has been registered and efforts are underway to arrest them.
The incident stems from a long-standing dispute over property gifted to Bhanulal Das by his in-laws. Despite repeated arbitration attempts, tensions had been simmering, with locals accusing Kshitish Das’ family of abusing their political influence. “This is not the first time they have attacked Bhanu. They have been bullying him for months,” alleged another resident.
Local panchayat members had earlier tried to mediate the conflict but failed to bring about a resolution. “The repeated failure to ensure justice has emboldened the accused,” a panchayat member admitted.
The atmosphere remains tense in Devipur Rajar Tilla with residents demanding strict action against the attackers. “We want strict punishment. No one should be allowed to misuse political power to oppress the weak,” demanded a local leader. Police investigations are ongoing.
