Agartala, 1st December 2025:     Tension erupted this morning in Sansia Bari area of Promodnagar ADC Village under Jampuijala RD Block, after residents gathered to protest the alleged encroachment of the locality’s only cremation ground.

Locals informed that the cremation ground has served as the sole site for last rites in the village for generations. However, for the past three to four years, a youth identified as Biswajit Debbarma has allegedly occupied a portion of the land illegally, using it to stockpile and sell sand.

Despite repeated objections and requests from neighbors and villagers, Debbarma reportedly ignored appeals and continued his activities. Residents said the use of the sacred cremation site for commercial purposes had fueled growing resentment in the community.

This morning, a large number of villagers armed with sticks and ropes assembled at the cremation ground to protest against the encroachment. Witnesses claimed that Debbarma fled the scene as the situation grew tense.

Villagers have demanded that the cremation ground be restored exclusively for religious and social purposes. They urged the administration to take strict action to ensure that no one dares to encroach upon such community land in the future.
