Agartala, 30th March 2024: In the Tirthamukh area of Karbook sub-division, a seemingly minor traffic incident escalated into a significant altercation, resulting in injuries and civil unrest. The dispute began when two youths from the nearby Reang refugee camp collided while returning from a bathing trip on their motorcycle. The accident left a five-year-old boy Yogesh with severe injuries, necessitating his transfer to a district hospital due to his critical condition.
The collision sparked immediate tensions between the camp residents and the local community, culminating in a physical confrontation that left four individuals seriously injured. Authorities, including police and paramilitary forces, were dispatched to the scene to de-escalate the situation and facilitate medical attention for those harmed.
As the news of the incident spread, residents of the Tirthamukh area expressed their outrage by erecting a roadblock, effectively halting traffic and demanding the relocation of the Reang refugee camp out of Karbook. Their demands also extended to seeking stringent punishment for those deemed responsible for the accident.
The blockade, which caused a complete standstill of traffic, was eventually lifted following a meeting mediated by SDPO Debanjali Roy. The discussion led to an agreement between the involved parties, restoring a semblance of peace to the area. The police and paramilitary forces remain vigilant at the site to prevent any further disturbances.
This incident highlights the simmering tensions within the community and the potential for minor incidents to ignite broader issues. The local administration is closely monitoring the situation to ensure the safety and well-being of all residents.
