Agartala, 4th November 2024: 249 TET-qualified candidates from 2022 appealed to Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, who also oversees the Education Department for immediate teacher appointments.
Speaking at the Agartala Press Club on Monday afternoon, the aspirants expressed frustration over the government’s delay in appointing them, despite qualifying in December 2022.
“Out of 361 candidates who cleared the TET, the government has yet to offer us appointments. For the past two years, we’ve sought meetings with the Chief Minister about 20 to 25 times, but each time, his office has not accommodated us. We even staged protests and faced arrest, yet no meaningful response has come our way,” one aspirant shared.
The group also mentioned discussions held with former Education Minister Ratan Lal Nath and Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy, who had assured them the matter was under consideration. “We met Director NC Sharma in September as well, and he assured us that the appointment file was in process and would likely be resolved within 15-16 days. But nearly two months have passed, and no action has been taken,” they added.
The aspirants highlighted the urgent need for teachers in the state, pointing to recent protests by students and parents demanding more teachers in government schools. “The Education Department has thousands of vacant posts. We urge the government, especially the Chief Minister, to recruit us and help strengthen the state’s educational system,” another aspirant appealed.
In response to questions about their next steps, the group stated that they are prepared to escalate their movement if their demand for appointments remains unmet. “If the government fails to fulfill our demand, we will be left with no choice but to stage further protests,” they warned.
