Thieves flee after attempted theft at IOC project area, Sekerkote in Bishalgarh

Agartala, 1st June 2025:  A group of 10-12 thieves attempted to steal iron rods late last night near the IOC project under the Kamalasagar assembly constituency. They reportedly parked a Bolero pickup truck bearing registration number TR07-1937 in a secluded rubber plantation near Ayushi before engaging in the theft. However, local youths swiftly intervened, chasing the thieves away.

Eyewitnesses claim that one of the thieves was briefly captured but later managed to escape. Despite the escape, the Bolero pickup remained abandoned at the site. Concerned residents immediately alerted Amtali police, but authorities did not respond until Sunday morning.

Expressing frustration over the delayed police action, a local representative told media personnel, “The police should have acted immediately, but they did not even remove the vehicle involved in the crime. The increasing thefts and unchecked drug trade near the IOC project in Sekerkote raise serious concerns.”

Local people have also questioned how such a large group of thieves could carry out their operation despite the presence of guards at the IOC site. “There has to be some kind of internal support for such activities,” speculated one resident.
