Three 17-year old boys drown in pond at AD Nagar; CM Dr Manik Saha, MLA Mina Rani express condolences

Agartala, 17th June 2025:  A tragic drowning incident shook the Arundhatinagar Agricultural Research Center area on Tuesday noon leaving three minors dead and one hospitalized. The accident has devastated the local community with grieving parents waiting helplessly by the pond for news of their children.

According to reports, the victims are Bobby Shukla Das (17), Shubham Deb (17) and Shubhjit Dey (15) had gone to bathe in the pond when one of them suddenly went underwater. In a desperate attempt to rescue him, two others jumped in but also drowned. Locals managed to rescue one of the boys and rushed him to a hospital, while the police and fire brigade responded swiftly to retrieve the remaining bodies. The two minors were taken to GB Hospital, where doctors declared them dead.

Badharghat MLA Meena Rani Sarkar, who visited the scene described the overwhelming grief in the community. “Firemen and rescue workers pulled out the three boys. The sight was heartbreaking, family members and locals were inconsolable, crying uncontrollably,” she said.

Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha also expressed his sorrow over the tragic loss. In a social media post, he wrote, “I am deeply saddened by the tragic death of three people together due to drowning in the Matri Palli area of Badharghat, Agartala. I pray to God to give strength to the bereaved family members in this difficult time. Along with this, the administration has been instructed to take necessary measures.”
