Three held, two stolen bikes recovered at Kailashahar

Date:

Agartala, 2nd October 2026 : Kailashahar police have recovered two motorcycles allegedly stolen during a Ganesh Puja cultural programme and detained three persons in connection with the theft.

The recovered Super Splendor motorcycles, bearing registration numbers TR02F5740 and TR02A7906, belonged to Sanjit Rudrapal of Durgapur and Ajit Das of Samrurpar, respectively. The owners had initially reported the thefts verbally at Kailashahar police station on September 20.

The breakthrough came on October 1 when one of the suspects allegedly attempted to sell one of the stolen motorcycles at a second-hand showroom in Phulbarikandi. Showroom staff became suspicious after finding no registration documents, a duplicate key and a removed number plate, and informed police.

Following interrogation, police reportedly recovered the second motorcycle from the Kumarghat railway station area late Thursday night. The owners subsequently lodged written complaints, following which Kailashahar police registered Case No. 59/2026 under Sections 303(2) and 3(5) of the BNS.

Speaking at a press conference on Friday, Kailashahar police OC Tapas Malakar said three persons had been detained in connection with the alleged bike-theft racket. The accused are being produced before the court after completion of necessary interrogation and legal formalities.
