Agartala, 2nd January 2024 :   Three student organizations – AIMSS, AIDYO and AIDSO – staged a protest in Battala area of Agartala on Tuesday, demanding a ban on liquor and drugs, and filling up of all vacancies in the state. The protest was attended by leaders of the three organizations, including Raja Biswas, Mridul Kanti Sarkar and Bhabatosh Dey.

The protesters alleged that the state government was planning to issue 100 more liquor licenses in the state, following the footsteps of the previous BJP government, which had opened hundreds of liquor counters four years ago. They said that such policies were detrimental to the social and moral fabric of the state, and led to increased incidents of violence, crime and addiction.

They also criticized the government for failing to provide security and dignity to women and students, who were facing harassment and exploitation in rural and urban areas. They said that the government should focus on improving the education and health sectors, instead of promoting liquor and drug consumption. They urged the government to heed their demands and take immediate action to curb the liquor and drug menace in the state.
