Agartala, 6th March 2026: A mega agricultural equipment distribution and natural farming awareness programme was organized today at the District Agricultural Science Centre under Chanthail Gram Panchayat in Unakoti district. The initiative aimed to promote modern farming tools and expand the practice of natural farming among local farmers.
The event was inaugurated by State Minister Tinku Roy in presence of Zilla Parishad’s Sabhadhipati Amalendu Das, District Agri Standing Committee President and Council Member Shyamal Das, Chandipur Panchayat Samiti Chairperson Sampa Das Pal, Vice Chairman Binoy Sinha, and Gournagar Agriculture Superintendent Sandeep Pal.
Welcoming the participants, Senior Scientist Dr. Jayashree Dutta of the Agricultural Science Centre said the programme’s primary objective was to distribute modern farming equipment and high-quality seeds to farmers. She noted that the tools had been supplied by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), New Delhi. To encourage natural farming, farmers were also provided with drums and other essential materials. Currently, nearly 1,000 farmers in the district are engaged in natural farming methods. The Government of India has adopted a special programme to promote natural farming nationwide until 2030.
Addressing the gathering, Minister Tinku Roy emphasized that the government is working tirelessly to implement Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas.” He highlighted various initiatives undertaken in Chandipur and Kailashahar subdivisions to improve the living standards of farmers, the poor, and the youth. Roy pointed out that most residents of Kailashahar are dependent on agriculture, with a significant population of tea workers. To support them, the government has introduced measures such as land pattas, ration card distribution, and wage hikes.
He further mentioned that under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana, about 285,000 farmers in the state have already benefited, with financial assistance amounting to nearly Rs 900 crore. Each farmer receives Rs 6,000 annually under the scheme.
The minister urged the Agricultural Science Centre to encourage more people to take up farming, expressing hope that this would enhance self-reliance among farmers and boost agricultural production.During the programme, farming tools and improved seeds were distributed to around 400 farmers. The initiative received an enthusiastic response from the farming community.
