Agartala, 3rd September 2026 : Political activity has intensified in Tripura following the announcement of the Village Committee elections, with alliance partner Tipra Motha taking an early lead in the nomination process.
Candidates backed by Tipra Motha began filing their nomination papers on Thursday at the Dukli RD Block, submitting nominations for 16 of the 23 seats across the East Jarulbachai, West Jarulbazar and Kalidaspara areas.
The move has drawn attention as, for the first time in the Dukli RD Block area, Tipra Motha has filed nominations ahead of the ruling BJP despite the two parties being alliance partners. The development has triggered discussions within political circles about the electoral dynamics between the two parties at the grassroots level.
Political observers are closely watching how the BJP and Tipra Motha will coordinate or compete in the upcoming Village Committee elections, particularly in areas where both parties have organisational bases.
Tipra Motha’s early move assumes significance given its strong performance in the TTAADC elections held earlier this year, where the party won 24 of the 28 seats. The performance had reinforced its political influence across the tribal areas of the state.
With the nomination process now underway, attention is expected to shift towards the candidates fielded by the BJP and the possibility of adjustments between the alliance partners in different constituencies.
