Tripura Showcases Water Management Initiatives at New Delhi Summit

Agartala, 3rd September 2026 :   Tripura has reiterated its commitment to strengthening water security and promoting sustainable management of water resources at a national-level summit held in New Delhi.

Panchayat Minister Kishor Barman represented Tripura at the two-day “Departmental Summit on Water”, organised by the Ministry of Jal Shakti at Sushma Swaraj Bhavan. The programme brought together ministers, senior officials and representatives from the Centre and various state governments to discuss the country’s emerging water-related challenges.

The summit was chaired by Union Jal Shakti Minister C. R. Patil. Key deliberations focused on conservation and efficient utilisation of water, protection and revival of water sources, drinking water security and the progress of the Jal Jeevan Mission.

Representing the state, Minister Barman outlined Tripura’s initiatives and experiences in the water sector. He also drew attention to the challenges confronting the state and participated in discussions on improving water management through the adoption of successful practices and innovative approaches from other parts of the country.

The meeting provided an opportunity for participating states to exchange experiences and identify practical measures to ensure sustainable water resources and dependable drinking water supplies.

Speaking on the occasion, Barman stressed the need for collective efforts to conserve water and protect natural water sources. He said that ensuring water security requires active participation from both the government and the public.

The minister also reaffirmed Tripura’s support for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Har Ghar Jal” vision and expressed the state’s determination to contribute towards creating a water-secure and developed India.
