Agartala, 8th January 2025 : In a concerted effort to ease traffic congestion in the city, the Traffic Department has launched a rigorous drive targeting illegally parked vehicles and those without proper documentation. The initiative aims to ensure smoother vehicular movement and promote road safety.
Speaking during the drive conducted in the GB Bazar area, SP Sudeshna Bhattacharya of the Traffic Police stated, “The rising issue of illegal parking in various parts of the city is a significant contributor to traffic jams. People are leaving their cars, motorbikes, and scooters wherever they please, causing chaos on the roads. Today’s drive is a step toward keeping our city free from such congestion.”
The operation saw active participation from Additional SP Sudhambika R and other senior officers. During the drive, several vehicles, including bikes, scooters, and cars, were seized for being parked illegally. SP Bhattacharya emphasized that stringent actions are being taken against vehicles without proper documentation. “We are imposing fines on vehicles lacking valid papers and taking strict action against individuals riding without helmets. These measures are necessary to ensure road discipline,” she added.
Residents in the capital have long been facing challenges due to illegal parking, with many arterial roads frequently clogged. “For several days, we have observed a pattern of reckless parking in key areas, causing unnecessary delays for commuters,” SP Bhattacharya explained.
The Traffic Department has assured citizens that such drives will be conducted regularly. “Our goal is to bring long-term relief to the city’s traffic woes. This is not a one-time effort; similar operations will continue in the coming days to instill discipline among motorists,” SP Bhattacharya remarked.
The initiative has received mixed reactions from the public, with many commuters appreciating the effort to streamline traffic. The department has urged citizens to cooperate by adhering to traffic rules and parking regulations to contribute to a more orderly city.
