Tragic wall collapse at Kamalpur’s school claims labourer’s life

Agartala, July 28, 2023: A tragic incident took place at the Kamalpur KC Girls’ School where a labourer lost his life when a wall collapsed while attempting to break down an old wall. The deceased worker was identified as Tanyaram Tripura, aged 27. The incident took place in a deserted building adjacent to the Krishna Chandra Class XII Girls’ School in Kamalpur town.

The building had been abandoned for a long time, and recently, a tender was floated online to demolish it. Five days before the accident, a contractor was assigned the task, and he hired five laborers to carry out the demolition work. Over the past four days, the laborers had been working on breaking down the structure. Unfortunately, on Friday morning, a portion of the dilapidated building collapsed suddenly, fatally injuring Tanyaram Tripura. The incident also caused injuries to another worker.

The injured worker was promptly rescued by members of the rescue force and rushed to Kamalpur Bimal Singh Memorial Hospital for medical treatment. However, upon examination, the attending doctor declared Tanyaram Tripura dead. The incident has left the Kamalpur community in deep sorrow and mourning.

Tanyaram Tripura was a 27-year-old resident of Kolkhori village, located under Ambassa Police Station. The tragedy has cast a pall of grief over the Kamalpur sub-district as they mourn the untimely loss of the laborer’s life due to the accident at the old building.
