Agartala, 19th September 2023 :  A major rail accident was narrowly avoided in Tamil Nadu on Monday, when the Tripura-Bengaluru Humsafar Express and a local train came on the same track near Parambu. The incident took place at around 3 pm, about 10 kilometers before the Humsafar Express was supposed to reach Parambu station.

The passengers of both the trains panicked as they saw the trains approaching each other at high speed. However, the drivers of both the trains managed to stop them in time and prevented a possible collision. The passengers heaved a sigh of relief and praised the drivers for their alertness and skill.

Among the passengers of the Humsafar Express were former ADC chief executive member Radhacharan Debbarma and former MLA Pranab Debbarma, who were on their way to attend a conference on land rights. They said that they were shocked by the incident and thanked God for saving their lives.

The incident reminded many of the Baleshwar rail accident that took place in West Bengal in 2010, when two trains collided head-on, killing 141 people and injuring 180 others. The Indian Railway Ministry had promised to take more stringent measures to ensure safety after that tragedy. However, Monday’s incident raised questions about the effectiveness of those measures and the coordination between the railway authorities.

The passengers demanded an inquiry into the incident and asked for action against those responsible for the lapse. They also urged the government to improve the infrastructure and technology of the railways and ensure that such incidents do not happen again.
