Agartala, 19th September 2023 : Residents of Ward No. 5 of Hadra Panchayat in Udaipur Subdivision have been facing a severe water crisis for the last 15 to 20 years. About two hundred families living in this ward do not have access to clean drinking water and have to rely on river water for their daily needs.
This has resulted in frequent outbreaks of water borne diseases among the residents, who have been suffering from various health problems. The residents have repeatedly appealed to the local authorities, including the elected public representatives and the water resources department officials, to provide them with clean drinking water. However, their pleas have fallen on deaf ears and no action has been taken to solve their problem.
A woman of the ward said that three years ago, a project was initiated to install a pump machine to supply drinking water to the ward, but it was left incomplete due to the negligence of the contractor. She said that although water pipes were laid by the government, no water was supplied through them. She said that the residents were frustrated and angry with the apathy of the authorities and demanded that they should be given clean drinking water as soon as possible.
The residents of Ward No. 5 of Hadra Panchayat urged the government to intervene in the matter and ensure that their basic right to clean drinking water was fulfilled. They said that they were living in miserable conditions and deserved better facilities from the government. They warned that if their demand was not met, they would resort to agitation and protest against the authorities.
