Tripura Biotechnology Council expands support under DNA club project

Agartala, 20th November 2025:  The Tripura Biotechnology Council continues to provide financial grants and technical assistance to encourage science-based experiments and research across schools in the state under the DNA Club Project. So far, a total of 222 schools in Tripura have benefited from this initiative.

For the 2025–26 financial year, an additional 50 schools have been selected to receive financial aid and technical support for purchasing laboratory equipment and conducting hands-on research activities in the field of life sciences.

To further popularize the DNA Club Project, the Council has decided to offer annual grants to the supported schools. As part of this continued effort, the 50 schools included in the 2024–25 financial year were given their second-year grant of Rs 25,000 each, amounting to a total of ₹12.5 lakh.

The grant distribution ceremony was held today at Sukanta Academy Conference Hall in Agartala, in the presence of Science, Technology & Environment Minister Animesh Debbarma. During the event, teachers from the selected schools also received hands-on training for 20 new science-based projects to be implemented in the second year.

In his address, Minister Debbarma emphasized the importance of fostering curiosity and a research-oriented mindset among students in the field of biotechnology. He expressed confidence that the next generation, equipped with scientific thinking, will help open new horizons. He also praised the Tripura Biotechnology Council for its sustained efforts.

Among those present at the program were Science, Technology & Environment Department Secretary Chaitanya Murti, TBC Member-Secretary Mahendra Singh, Joint Member-Secretary and Joint Director of the Directorate of Biotechnology Amon Sengupta, along with other council officials. Based on first-year performance evaluations, 28 teachers were honored with recognition awards. Additionally, 100 students from the 50 schools were selected as Best Performing Students.

A book featuring progress reports and evaluation-based data on the DNA Club Project was also unveiled during the event.

Approximately 300 teachers, headmasters, and students attended the ceremony. Awarded teachers expressed that the DNA Club Project has significantly increased students’ curiosity and engagement in scientific learning—one of the project’s key successes.
