Agartala, 20th April 2026: Tripura BJP president Rajib Bhattacharya has stepped up his political attack on the Tipra Motha Party, alleging that its workers were responsible for widespread post-election violence following the declaration of the TTAADC results on April 17.
Addressing BJP workers who had taken refuge at the Saheed Bhagat Singh Yuva Awas in Agartala after the unrest, Bhattacharya said the party strongly condemns violence and remains committed to what he described as “development-oriented politics” in the tribal areas and across Tripura. He asserted that the BJP’s focus is on “Ek Tripura, Shrestha Tripura,” emphasizing unity and development over conflict.
Accusing Tipra Motha workers of targeting BJP cadres and damaging homes, he claimed that the situation escalated after the election outcome, forcing several party workers to seek shelter at multiple locations. He further alleged that attempts to take legal action against those involved were being obstructed, including road blockades.
Bhattacharya also said he had discussed the situation with Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, noting that the Chief Minister, who was in West Bengal at the time, was expected to return and convene a high-level meeting to address the unrest and ensure the safe return of displaced BJP workers.
Reiterating the party’s stance, he said those responsible for violence would not be spared and stressed that the BJP leadership was actively monitoring the situation on the ground, coordinating relief and security arrangements for affected workers across several shelter locations.
