Tripura BJP President  Launches Attack on CPI(M), Calls for Public Opposition

Date:

Agartala, 26th July 2026: Tripura BJP president and MLA Abhishek Debroy on Sunday launched a fresh attack on the CPI(M), accusing the opposition party of making misleading claims about the state’s democratic environment.

Speaking at a programme held in memory of people allegedly killed in political violence in 2004, Debroy alleged that the CPI(M)’s long rule in Tripura was marked by incidents of violence and unrest. He targeted former Chief Minister Manik Sarkar and Leader of Opposition Jitendra Chaudhury, holding the Left leadership responsible for what he described as a “dark period” in the state’s political history.

Debroy made strong remarks against the CPI(M) leaders, saying they should “wear burqas to hide their faces” over the alleged killings and violence that occurred during their government’s tenure.

He claimed that several cases of political violence during the Left Front regime were not properly addressed and alleged that some accused persons were later provided government employment.

Referring to past incidents, the BJP leader questioned the CPI(M)’s criticism of the present government and asked whether such incidents reflected democratic values. He also alleged that the previous government failed to take action against those responsible for political crimes.

Debroy defended the BJP-led government, stating that the administration follows the rule of law and takes action against anyone accused of wrongdoing, regardless of their political affiliation. He appealed to people to raise their voice against the CPI(M), alleging that the party was trying to mislead citizens by making accusations against the current government.

The BJP leader further said that the freedom enjoyed by opposition parties to organise programmes, hold meetings and criticise the government itself demonstrates the presence of democracy in Tripura.
