Agartala, 22nd June 2026: The Animal Resources Development Department on Monday held its first state-level review meeting for FY 2026–27 at the Gorkhabasti conference hall to monitor budget expenditures and accelerate welfare schemes. Presided over by Minister Sudhangshu Das, the session included Secretary Deepa D. Nair and Director Neeraj Kumar Chanchal.
The meeting called for a comprehensive evaluation of departmental progress. While the state achieved a 98% implementation rate last year, officials urged swift action to clear remaining seasonal construction backlogs. During the event, Minister Das also inaugurated a newly constructed vertical building extension for TRESP operations.
Addressing reporters outside the hall, Minister Sudhangshu Das raised serious points regarding the state’s soaring fisheries sector. He highlighted that annual fish production provisionally crossed a milestone of 95,000 metric tons, rising significantly from 84,000 metric tons in 2023.
“This growth matches surging public demand for fish, milk, and eggs driven by rising incomes. The department must determine ground-level bottlenecks by coordinating directly with progressive district-level farmers,” Das said.
The department leaders asserted that timely submission of Utilization Certificates (UCs) successfully secured expanded central Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) funding to reclaim abandoned water bodies and expand massive reservoir infrastructure.
