Tripura gears up for Seven-Day Kharchi Festival, to begin from July 22

Date:

Agartala, 22nd June 2026:   Preparations for Tripura’s traditional seven-day Kharchi Festival and Fair, set to begin on July 22, are in full swing.

A preparatory meeting was held this morning at the conference hall of the West Tripura District Magistrate’s office to review arrangements for the festival, which will take place at the Chaturdasha Devata Temple premises in Khayerpur under the Old Agartala block. The meeting was chaired by MLA Ratan Chakraborty.

Addressing the gathering, he described the Kharchi Puja as a unifying festival that brings together people from all communities, cutting across religious and social boundaries. He said the event stands as a symbol of Tripura’s cultural heritage and continues to attract thousands of devotees and tourists from across the country and abroad each year.

Officials discussed multiple aspects of the festival’s preparations, with a strong focus on upgrading infrastructure around the temple and fairground. Key arrangements include improved street lighting, uninterrupted power supply, drinking water facilities, and deployment of medical teams for visitors.

To ease traffic congestion, designated parking zones will be set up, along with a structured plan for stall allocation. As in previous years, various government departments will also install exhibition stalls showcasing public welfare schemes and highlighting achievements under the central government during the 12-year tenure of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The Department of Information and Cultural Affairs will organize daily cultural programmes at the Habeli and Krishnamala stages, featuring artists from across the state. A dedicated food court will also be arranged to enhance visitor experience.

The meeting was attended by senior officials and public representatives, including Acting Sabhadhipati of West Tripura Zila Parishad Bishwajit Shil, among others.
