Agartala, 25th October 2025: A formal complaint seeking the registration of a First Information Report (FIR) against Sudhangshu Das, a Minister in the Tripura government, has been filed by Tripura Congress with the NCC Police Station in Agarala, alleging corruption and criminal misconduct.
The complaint, a copy of which is with this publication, accuses the minister of having “candidly admitted to receiving monetary benefits in the form of cash commissions or gratification” from contractors in exchange for favouring them with government tenders.
The allegations are based on what the complainant describes as “credible electronic and print media reports,” including video clippings circulating on social media and newspaper reports, which allegedly capture the minister’s own statements.
According to the complaint, Sudhangshu Das, who holds a portfolio in the state government, is a “Public Servant” as defined under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. His alleged admission is stated to constitute a “blatant violation of legal and ethical standards.”
The complaint urges the police to invoke several serious sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act, including Offence of a public servant taking gratification other than legal remuneration for an official act, Pertaining to criminal misconduct by a public servant through corrupt or illegal means, or by abusing their official position.
Additionally, the plea states that the minister’s actions also constitute offences under the newly enacted Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023.
The complainant has argued that such conduct “undermines principles of transparency, fairness, and the Rule of Law.” The letter calls upon the police to register a formal FIR against the minister, conduct a “thorough and impartial investigation” into the allegations, take all necessary legal action to “uphold justice and maintain the integrity of public administration.”
