Agartala, 25th October 2025:    The Tripura Pradesh Congress has announced a series of statewide protest programs in response to what it describes as a severe deterioration of law and order in the state. The announcement came after a meeting of the Congress Legal Cell at the Pradesh Congress Bhavan today which also saw several lawyers joining the party.

Addressing the media after the meeting, Pradesh Congress President Ashish Kumar Saha said the party has finalized plans for protest activities in November and December.

He also stated that on October 3, the Congress Legal Cell will submit a mass deputation to the Human Rights Commission, citing growing concerns over alleged violations of citizens’ constitutional rights.

“The fundamental rights of the people, including the right to life, freedom of speech inside and outside Parliament, and the right to information, are under threat. There seems to be a conspiracy to alter the Constitution,” Saha said.

He also criticized the state administration over the attack on the Belonia police station officer, calling it indicative of the failure of governance at multiple levels.

Saha further expressed concern over increasing drug-related crimes and the overall worsening situation across Tripura, accusing the Chief Minister of being a silent observer despite the deteriorating law and order.

Meanwhile, MLA Sudip Roy Barman openly criticized the police for their handling of students and opposition groups, alleging they act aggressively toward citizens while favoring the ruling party and its allies. Referring to police action against students at Shantirbazar Ramraibari High School and tensions surrounding a bandh in Kamalpur’s Shantirbazar area, Roy Barman said, “The police are acting more like tyrants than protectors.” He assured that the situation would soon return to normal and law and order would be restored.

Roy Barman also commented on the ongoing investigation into MLA Ranjit Debbarma’s citizenship case, stressing that the process must be transparent and citizens should be informed of developments.

The Congress party’s planned statewide agitation reflects rising political tensions in Tripura as opposition voices criticize the state government’s handling of law and order, constitutional rights, and governance.
