Agartala, 3rd July 2026: The Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee has accused the state’s Drinking Water and Sanitation (DWS) Department of widespread corruption and irregularities in water supply projects. On Friday, party representatives led by spokesperson Prabir Chakraborty marched from Congress Bhavan in Agartala to the DWS office, where they submitted a memorandum to Director Manoranjan Debbarma.
The memorandum alleges that citizens are being deprived of safe drinking water due to corruption, use of substandard materials, and lack of supervision in projects including the Jal Jeevan Mission. Congress leaders raised serious concerns about the quality of alum used for water purification, claiming that substandard alum increases contamination risks and is linked to corrupt practices.
The document further highlights rising waterborne diseases, pipeline defects, and the supply of untreated water in several parts of the state. The party has demanded: Transparent investigation into the quality of alum used; Legal action against those involved in alleged corruption; and Assurance of safe drinking water across the state.
Congress leaders emphasized that the government must act promptly, describing the issue as a critical matter of public health.
