Agartala, 29th November 2025:  Kanchanpur witnessed a remarkable agricultural initiative today as Minister for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, Ratan Lal Nath today visited the farmlands of potato growers Jyotirmoy Das and Dhananjay Das to participate in potato plantation using the ARC (Automatic Ridge Cultivation) method.

The minister said the misty sunlight felt like a doorway opening to new possibilities across the fields.  While joining the plantation activities at Subhash Nagar and Dainchara Village Council’s Karnajoy Para, he emphasized the deep bond between farmers and their land.

“This method is not just technology; it is a new story of courage for potato farmers. When farmers prosper, the entire state prospers. Our goal is clear which is to empower our farmers,” said the minister.  He expressed hope that the initiative would inspire many more cultivators across the region, spreading from Kanchanpur to Karbook, helping dreams of lush green harvests take root.

He said that currently around 23,700 farmers cultivate potatoes across 47,341 kanis of land in Tripura.  “Traditionally, farmers have produced 2,500–3,000 kg of potatoes per kani. However, under the ARC method, yields have increased dramatically to between 9,000 and 10,000 kg per kani,” the minister noted.

Minister Nath further stated that by the 2028–29 financial year, the state aims to become self-sufficient in seed potato production, and by 2029–30, Tripura is expected to achieve full self-reliance in potato production.  Minister Nath expressed optimism that this initiative will open a new chapter in Tripura’s agricultural development and lead the state toward self-sufficiency in potato production.
