Tripura gets approval for first government Ayurvedic Medical College at Udaipur: CM Dr Manik Saha

Agartala, 19th June 2026:   In a major boost to healthcare and medical education in Tripura, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Friday announced that the National Commission for Indian System of Medicine (NCISM) under the Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India, has accepted the state government’s application for the establishment of the Tripura Government Ayurvedic Medical College and Hospital at Udaipur.

According to the Chief Minister, the institution will commence admissions with an intake capacity of 60 seats from the 2026–27 academic session, marking a significant milestone in the state’s efforts to strengthen traditional systems of medicine and expand opportunities in medical education.

Sharing the development, Dr. Saha expressed happiness over the approval and described it as a landmark achievement for Tripura. He said the college would play a vital role in enhancing Ayurvedic education, promoting indigenous healthcare practices, and creating new avenues for students aspiring to pursue careers in Ayurveda.

“I am delighted to share that the National Commission for Indian System of Medicine under the Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India, has accepted our application for the establishment of the Tripura Government Ayurvedic Medical College and Hospital at Udaipur with an intake capacity of 60 seats from the academic session 2026–27,” the Chief Minister said.

Dr. Saha also conveyed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for extending support to the state’s healthcare and education initiatives.

“My heartfelt gratitude and sincere thanks to Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji for his visionary leadership and unwavering support in strengthening healthcare and medical education across the country,” he stated.

The Chief Minister added that the new institution would not only contribute to the growth of Ayurvedic studies in Tripura but also help improve healthcare services for the people by promoting the integration of traditional medicine into the healthcare system.

The approval is expected to pave the way for the establishment of Tripura’s first government Ayurvedic medical college, strengthening the state’s healthcare infrastructure and expanding higher education opportunities in the AYUSH sector.
