Agartala, 17th July 2026 : The Tripura Government has carried out a major reshuffle in the police department, transferring 47 IPS and TPS officers in one of the biggest administrative changes in recent times.
One of the key appointments is that of TPS officer Panna Lal Sen, who has been posted as the new SDPO, Sadar, replacing D.P. Roy. As SDPO Sadar, Sen will be responsible for maintaining law and order in Agartala, the state’s busiest police subdivision.

Police officers describe Panna Lal Sen as a sincere and promising officer. His appointment comes at a time when the Sadar subdivision is under focus. Allegations of maladministration and corruption have been made against outgoing SDPO D.P. Roy in recent months. However, no official findings have been made public regarding those allegations.
Another important posting is that of IPS officer Shankar Debnath, who has been appointed Superintendent of Police, Economic Offences Wing (EOW). A senior officer with around 15 years of service, Debnath had spent the last year as Commandant of the 6th Battalion of the Tripura State Rifles (TSR). His posting to the EOW is seen as a return to an important investigative role. Although there have been claims that his earlier transfer was linked to a complaint made by a junior officer, no official confirmation has been issued on the matter.
Among other transfers, Sudhambika R. has been moved from SP, Unakoti, to SP, Cyber Crime, while Rishabh has been posted as the new SP of Unakoti. Nabadwip Jamatia has been transferred as Commandant of the 15th Battalion of TSR.
The reshuffle also includes changes in Vigilance, Anti-Narcotics, Serious Crime, Special Branch, Traffic, and several district police units.
Officials said the transfers were made to improve policing, strengthen law and order, and prepare the force for the upcoming Village Committee and municipal elections.
