Agartala, 5th March 2024: The healthcare sector of Tripura has a total of 8,734 registered nurses and midwives, along with 1,357 registered auxiliary nurses and midwives, who are currently unemployed.
During the financial years of 2021-22 and 2022-23, a commendable number of 177 General Duty Medical Officers (GDMO)/Junior Medical Officers (JMO) in the Grade of Tripura Health Service (THS) (Allopathic) and Medical Officer (Dental) Grade-IV of THS have been appointed. Furthermore, the last fiscal year witnessed the release of appointment letters to 162 individuals for the position of Nursing Officer, dated February 23.
The state’s Community Health Centres (CHCs) and Primary Health Centres (PHCs) are currently staffed with a total of 464 doctors, 697 nurses, and 257 paramedical staff. These numbers are critical in ensuring the delivery of healthcare services across the state.
Tripura’s government-run healthcare institutions boast a roster of 413 specialist doctors across various disciplines. This includes 13 Master of Dental Surgery (MDS) (TDS), 3 MD (Homeopathy), and 12 MD (Ayurveda). Of these specialists, 264 doctors have opted to practice privately in their respective chambers throughout the state.
The healthcare workforce is further supported by 612 regular pay employees, 262 fixed pay employees, 84 regular Laboratory Technicians, 49 regular Laboratory Technicians (Blood), 349 other Paramedical and Technical Staff on a regular basis, 31 other Paramedical and Technical Staff on a contractual basis, and 2,114 nursing officers under the Group-C (non-gazetted) category. Additionally, under the Group-D category, there are 1,366 regular pay employees and 947 fixed pay employees.
Chief Minister Prof Dr Manik Saha, who is looking after Health and Family Welfare department informed this in written replies on the floor of state assembly on Tuesday.
