Tripura Moves Ahead with Plans for Advanced Skill Development Centre, Studies Odisha Model

Date:

Agartala, 20th June 2026:   The Tripura government has intensified its efforts to create a modern skill development ecosystem by examining successful models from across the country. As part of this initiative, Industries and Commerce Minister Santana Chakma led a delegation to Bhubaneswar to study the functioning of Odisha’s renowned World Skill Centre.

The visit forms part of Tripura’s broader plan to establish a cutting-edge World Skill Centre and Employability Hub at Hapania in Agartala. The proposed institution is expected to become a key platform for preparing young people for future employment opportunities through specialized training and industry-focused programmes.

Officials reviewed various aspects of the Odisha centre, including its training infrastructure, technology-enabled classrooms, practical learning facilities, and industry engagement strategies. The delegation also explored how the institution maintains strong connections with employers to ensure better job prospects for trainees.

The proposed centre in Tripura aims to offer training in emerging sectors, promote entrepreneurship, provide career counselling, and facilitate placements. The government believes the project will help address skill gaps and create a workforce equipped to meet the changing demands of modern industries.

To support the initiative, Odisha’s World Skill Centre has been identified as a knowledge partner. The institution will assist Tripura in planning infrastructure, developing training modules, strengthening faculty capabilities, establishing industry linkages, and implementing quality assessment systems.

During the visit, the delegation interacted with experts, trainers, and students to understand the operational framework and best practices that have contributed to the success of the Odisha model. The insights gained are expected to play a crucial role in shaping Tripura’s ambitious vision of becoming a regional hub for skill development and employment generation.
