Agartala, 13th February 2026: Tripura Member of Parliament Rajib Bhattacharjee has called for the launch of a high-speed train service between Agartala and Guwahati, highlighting the need to make rail connectivity in Tripura faster and more efficient.
Speaking in Parliament, Bhattacharjee said the Northeast has seen significant infrastructural progress under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He pointed out that Tripura is now linked to the rest of the country through a broad-gauge railway network, with services such as the Tripura Sundari Express and the Kanchanjungha Express connecting Agartala to major cities like Kolkata, New Delhi, and Guwahati.
Despite these advancements, he stressed that travel time between Agartala and Guwahati remains lengthy, creating challenges for passengers and impacting key sectors such as business, education, healthcare, and tourism. Introducing a high-speed train on this route, he argued, would drastically cut travel time and provide a more comfortable journey.
The MP urged the Ministry of Railways to take swift action on the proposal, noting that students, professionals, patients, and tourists would greatly benefit. He added that improved rail connectivity would also enhance industrial growth, trade opportunities, and investment potential in Tripura.
