Tripura Police arrest 2 Bangladeshi National, Indian Tout and Seize Fake Currency

Agartala, 4th January 2026:   In a significant crackdown on cross-border crime, Tripura Police detained two  Bangladeshi nationals and an Indian tout from the Sonamura-Kamalanagar area in Sepahijala district and from Amarpur in past 24 hours.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Main Uddin, S/O Basir Miah, from Jamalpur, Feni, Bangladesh, and Anik Hossain, S/O Kadir Miah of Kamalanagar, Ward No-06, PS Sonamura. A case has been registered at Sonamura Police Station, and the duo is scheduled to be produced in court today.

Meanwhile, acting on a tip-off about the illegal smuggling of Indian fake currency from Bangladesh, Amarpur police set up an ambush in Dalak, Amarpur. During the operation, an auto-rickshaw was intercepted, leading to the arrest of three individuals: Birchandra Jamatia and Prabhatori Jamatia, both residents of Birganj, Amarpur, and Pranita Tripura, a Bangladeshi national from Khagrachari.

From their possession, police seized Rs 1.41 lakh in cash, suspected to be counterfeit. The arrested individuals have been handed over to Amarpur police for further investigation.Police have confirmed that the crackdown is part of ongoing efforts to curb cross-border crime and the circulation of fake currency in Tripura.
