Agartala, December 14, 2022: Tripura Pradesh Trinamool Congress President Pijush Kanti Biswas, All India Trinamool Congress Rajya Sabha MP Sushmita Deb and other leaders on Wednesday gave a deputation to the Tripura Human Rights Commission office on the violation of human rights in the state.
In this context, TMC state president Pijush Kanti Biswas said, “You see wherever the people of Tripura go to protest for their democratic rights, the police are being deployed, brutally torturing them. The police administration is not concerned, the government is also silent, so it is understood that it is in favour of the government. These tortures are happening at the behest of the government. We approached the Human Rights Commission today for this. They have given assurances. We hope they will take action.”
All India Trinamool Congress MP Sushmita Dev said, “Today we on behalf of Tripura Pradesh Trinamool Congress met the Tripura Human Rights Commission headed by our President Pijush Kanti Biswas and through a memorandum highlighted how the police are lathi-charge against those who are agitating in a democratic country. A pregnant woman was lathi-charged by the police and then the police said why such a woman came to the agitation. This cannot be done by the police. The police are there for the safety of the public.”
“We have today given this memorandum on behalf of the Tripura Pradesh Trinamool Congress to the Chairman of the Tripura Human Rights Commission”, she added.
