Agartala, 10th September 2026 : State Election Commission (SEC) on Thursday said the situation remained peaceful ahead of the Village Committee elections, with no written complaints received from political parties or candidates over obstruction during the nomination process.
State Election Commissioner P K Chakraborty said a few minor untoward incidents were reported while nominations were being filed, but they were resolved promptly following the intervention of the commission.
The Village Committee elections under the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) are scheduled for September 28.
Nomination filing began on September 1 and ended on September 8, while scrutiny of nomination papers was completed on September 9. The last date for withdrawal of candidature is September 11.
Polling will be held across 587 Village Committees, comprising 2,634 constituencies and 4,597 seats.
Chakraborty said some candidates were initially stopped from submitting their nomination papers on the premises of Returning Officers, but they were subsequently allowed to file their papers after the SEC intervened.
He said adequate security arrangements were being made for the elections, with the deployment of the Tripura State Rifles, Tripura Police and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF).
According to Chakraborty, the Centre initially approved 24 CAPF companies, but following a request from the state government, the number was subsequently increased to 50 companies. Along with the earlier allocation, a total of 74 CAPF companies will be deployed across Tripura.
The forces will be positioned in sensitive and other areas to maintain law and order. Police have already begun area-domination exercises, he said.
The SEC also said training for polling personnel would begin next week. Chakraborty clarified that there is no provision for designated “model polling stations” for these elections.
