Agartala, 6th January 2026: A truck valued at Rs 22 lakh has been left to deteriorate for nearly five years due to alleged negligence by the police administration, raising serious concerns over accountability and property damage.
The vehicle, a container truck bearing registration number AS01MC0751 belongs to Jamal Uddin, a resident of Monai Pathar ADC Village under Jatrapur police station. Uddin, who had no alternative means of livelihood, sold his land and property to purchase the truck, which was his family’s only source of income.
Five years back, the truck was intercepted by Jatrapur police near Bankumari while transporting cattle feed along with contraband substances including Phensedyl cough syrup. Two individuals identified as Partha De of Patna’s Kankarbagh and Shiva Shankar of Agartala were inside the vehicle at the time of the seizure.
Since then, the truck has remained parked by the roadside near the police station, exposed to the elements. With no protective measures taken, the vehicle has gradually fallen into disrepair.
Despite repeated appeals to the officer-in-charge of Jatrapur police station, Uddin claims he received no satisfactory response. Frustrated, he approached journalists to highlight his plight.
“I have no other employment. My family depended entirely on this truck for survival. Because of the contraband found inside, the police seized it, but leaving it abandoned for five years has ruined everything,” Uddin told reporters.
While acknowledging that the law must take its course, Uddin insists that the authorities should have ensured the truck was preserved until legal proceedings concluded. He has now formally appealed to the police administration to prevent further damage to the vehicle.
