True Meaning of Independence Yet to Be Achieved: Former CM Manik Sarkar

Date:

Agartala, 15th August 2026: Former Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar said the true meaning of independence had not yet been achieved and called for a stronger movement against unemployment and poverty.

A blood donation camp was organised at the Mela Ground Student-Youth Bhavan on Saturday by the joint initiative of students and youth of the Ramnagar area committee to mark the 80th Independence Day and the birth centenary of poet Sukanta Bhattacharya.

Sarkar and Leader of the Opposition Jitendra Chaudhury were among those present.

Addressing the gathering, Sarkar said the problems for which people had fought during the freedom movement had still not been resolved even after 80 years of independence. He claimed that poverty and unemployment had increased over the past 12 years and called for a strong movement to build a country free from unemployment and poverty.

He also visited the blood donation camp and greeted the donors.
