Agartala, 6th March 2025: The High Court of Tripura has streamlined the recruitment process of Tripura State Cooperative Bank Limited (TSCB), ensuring that the mandated 33% reservation for women is implemented across all categories. This decision follows a legal challenge that pointed out inconsistencies in the application of the reservation policy.
Addressing a press conference at Post Office Chowmuhani today, TSCB Chairman Nagadhiraj Dutta announced that the final selection list of candidates will be published transparently within the next 10 to 12 days. Job offer distribution is expected to be completed by the first week of April. He said the recruitment drive, which began with a notification on October 28, 2021, sought to fill 50 Assistant Manager positions, 78 Cash-cum-General Clerk posts, and 28 Multi-Tasking Staff (MTS) vacancies. The written examinations took place on May 3, 4, and 5, 2024, at centers in Agartala, Silchar, Guwahati, Jorhat, Dibrugarh, and Tezpur.
Based on the written tests, IBPS shortlisted 658 candidates, including 210 for Assistant Manager, 329 for Cash-cum-General Clerk, and 119 for MTS. The list of shortlisted candidates was published on the bank’s website on August 20, 2024, and in local newspapers the following day. Subsequently, oral interviews were conducted at Agartala Press Club from October 19 to 30, 2024.
The final recruitment results for 156 posts were declared on February 21, 2025, via IBPS’s secure file transfer protocol (SFTP). However, following the results’ publication, four candidates submitted applications to the bank authorities, and a writ petition was filed by petitioner Ankur Bhattacharya and others. The petition highlighted that the 33% women’s reservation was applied only to the general category instead of all categories as mandated by Tripura State Government Notification No. F.23 (17)-GA(P&T)/2022, dated June 28, 2022.
On March 5, the Managing Director of TSCB appeared before the High Court and confirmed that the 33% women’s reservation would be applied horizontally across all categories in compliance with government policy. Consequently, the bank requested IBPS to review the final selection results and issue a revised selection list and waiting list accordingly.
Following the High Court’s decision, TSCB is working closely with IBPS to ensure the corrected selection list is published at the earliest. Chairman Dutta clarified that the issue arose due to a misunderstanding between IBPS and the bank but assured that there were no irregularities in the recruitment process.
The press conference was also attended by TSCB’s Managing Director Bhajan Chandra Roy, General Manager Aparna Debbarma, and other senior officials. They reiterated that the recruitment process would be completed transparently, ensuring fairness and adherence to reservation norms.
