Agartala Jan 08: Twipra Students Federation (TSF) on Sunday observed ‘Black Day’ over the incident of open firing on students that took place four years ago during a peaceful protest over the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB).

The West district police had allegedly fired bullets over the TSF agitators who were protesting in Dasharam Para village in Madhav Bari of in Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC).

Speaking with reporters, TSF agitators who staged protest at Abhoynagar area, said that on this day while protest peacefully against (CAB) on the North East strike, called by the North East Student’s Organisation (NESO), the Tripura State Rifles (TSR) opened fired upon the agitators injuring many with bullet wounds.

“Even though we had the permission for the peaceful protest but the police resorted to open firing which resulted in five agitator’s injury. Even the ambulance which was taking the injured persons to GBP hospital in Agartala was vandalized and they were thrashed out of the vehicle by the police”, alleged the agitators. “The previous governments without passing any law and act had helped many foreigners to settle them in Tripura, Assam, Meghalaya and in other states of India. Now, the Modi government has passed this CAA forcefully to give citizenship to the illegal immigrants. I would like to say that this CAA is very draconian and it is quite detrimental through the overall interest of the indigenous. We will become like ashes if CAA is implemented here. This is an atom bomb just to destroy us,” he said.
