Agartala, July 26, 2022: The visually challenged users i.e. Divyaganjan have much to cheer with the opening of the ‘Sugamya Pustakalaya’ Facilitation Centre at Tripura University campus. Using accessible technology to empower the visually challenged, the central library of the University has set up assistive technology, digital lab to make print and reading materials digitally accessible to the visually challenged users of the Library.
Fire and Emergency Services minister Ram Prasad Paul inaugurated the ‘Sugamya Pustakalaya’ Facilitation Centre at central library, Tripura University in presence of Vice-Chancellor Prof. Ganga Prasad Prasain, Registrar Dr Deepak Sharma and other dignitaries of the central university on Tuesday.
Minister Paul expressed his pleasure to have a unique type of facility in the University for the benefit of the visually challenged divyang students of the state. He further added that such platform would break the barrier in knowledge dissemination and it would enable users of the university and the state as well for their teaching, learning, and research works. He congratulated to the university authority for taking such an innovative initiation.
Prof Ganga Prasad Prasain explained to have such a facilitation centre which will immensely helpful for visually divyang students of the state. Prof Prasain further added that in future, this lab will be converted into a bigger one for the larger interest of the divyang users. A blood donation camp was also organized by the University fraternity on the occasion. The entire programmes were covered under COVID-19 protocols.
