TU observes ‘Veer Bal Diwas’, pays tribute to ‘Sikh Gurus’

Agartala, December 27, 2022: Tripura University observed 26th December as ‘Veer Bal Diwas’ as per the instructions received from the Ministry of Education under ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’. In this connection, the University organized a prestigious lecture to commemorate the sacrifice of ‘Sikh Gurus’. Dr. Jaspal Singh, Member, National Commission for Minority Educational Institutions and former Vice-Chancellor, Punjabi University, Patiala and also former Indian Ambassador to Mozambique and Swaziland, delivered his keynote speech. Dr. Singh elaborated in detail the ‘Shahadat’ of Sahibzada Zorawat Singh Ji and Sahibzada Fateh Singh Ji who had to be martyred for the country at their very young age of just 9 and 7 years respectively. Both Shahibzada were thrown alive into a wall because they did not bow their heads before the Mughal Empire, Aurangzeb and became a martyr for their honour and dignity. Dr. Manmohan Kaur, former Principal of Khalsa College, Delhi also enlightened the noble thought of Guru Govind Singh Ji on the occasion.

In the beginning, Dr. Deepak Sharma, Registrar, Tripura University welcomed all the dignitaries and introduced the theme. The programme was presided over by Prof. Ganga Prasad Prasain, Vice-Chancellor, Tripura University who assured in his address that, all these historical facts will be covered under NEP-2020. 

It is worth mentioning that the programme was conducted by observing all the norms and rituals of Sikhism, progamme, commenced with the recitation of Shabad – ‘Deh Shiva Bar Mohe Eha Shubh Karman te kabahun na tarun…’. For the first time in the University, local participants, employees and students got to know about the Sikh culture and rituals. The programme was organised in hybrid mode and more than two hundred participants were benefited. The keynote speaker was introduced by Dr Parama Chakma, Assistant Professor, Department of Sociology and it was moderated by Dr Muneendra Mishra, Assistant Director (Official Language), Tripura University.
