Two arrested in broad-daylight snatching case at Salbagan; Stolen gold chain recovered

Agartala, 27th October 2025:   . Two youths have been arrested by the New Capital Complex (NCC) police in connection with a sensational daylight snatching incident that took place in the Shalbagan area, bringing a breakthrough in the case that had stirred public concern.

Police sources informed that the incident took place when Niladri Karmakar was traveling with his sister in an auto-rickshaw from Siddhai Mohanpur towards Agartala. As they passed through Shalbagan, two unidentified youths approached the vehicle and snatched a gold chain from around his sister’s neck before fleeing the scene.

Following the incident, Karmakar lodged a written complaint with the NCC police station. Acting swiftly, police detained two suspects and produced them before the court, which remanded them to judicial custody.

During custodial interrogation, investigating officers reportedly obtained leads on two more individuals involved in the crime. Acting on this information, police apprehended the additional suspects earlier today and successfully recovered the stolen gold chain from their possession.

NCC police station in-charge Prasenjit Malakar confirmed the arrests and recovery, stating that the two accused will be presented before the court tomorrow.

The incident has sparked widespread concern in the locality. Police have assured that the investigation is ongoing to identify and apprehend other members of the snatching ring.
