Agartala, 6th May 2025:  In a coordinated crackdown, the Government Railway Police (GRP) and Railway Protection Force (RPF) detained two women from Bihar at Agartala Railway Station in the early hours of Tuesday for allegedly attempting to smuggle a large consignment of cannabis to Punjab.

Tapas Das, Officer-in-Charge of GRP Agartala, said the duo was found carrying 22.405 kg of dry ganja, tightly packed in six bundles and hidden inside two pit bags and a trolley bag. The accused—identified as Manju Devi (45) from Lakshmisharai district and Rachana Devi (36) from Bhagalpur district of Bihar—are suspected to be repeat offenders, having used the Agartala route on multiple occasions to traffic narcotics.

“Initial findings indicate the seized contraband was intended for illegal distribution in Punjab, where its market value is estimated at around Rs 4.5 lakh,” Das said. A case has been filed under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at the Agartala GRP police station.
