Agartala, 7th December 2025:   Residents of Tripura’s border regions are gripped by fear following allegations against two men from Bangladesh’s Comilla district, accused of involvement in arms trafficking, extremist training, and cross-border smuggling.

Local reports suggest that widespread rumors on social media and informal networks have fueled concerns that extremist groups in Bangladesh are attempting to recruit youths through weapons training. Against this backdrop, the names of two individuals—Alamgir and Jewel—have resurfaced, drawing sharp attention from border communities.

Local media personnel alleged, Alamgir has been accused of being a notorious arms dealer linked to an alleged extremist training network. While previously associated with arms import and export, he is now suspected of attempting to lure young people into militancy by providing them with weapons.

Meanwhile, Jewel, another resident of Comilla’s border area, faces allegations of long-standing involvement in smuggling narcotics and contraband from India’s Tripura state into Bangladesh. Reports claim that these items are stored under his supervision before being distributed across various locations. Sources further allege that Jewel may also be acting as an informant for a faction within the Bangladesh police, raising questions about delayed legal action against him.

Local members believe that such activities have intensified following recent political changes in Bangladesh. Residents warn that the operations of these two men could trigger serious incidents along the Indo-Bangladesh border, urging India’s Border Security Force (BSF) to adopt heightened vigilance.

Higher police officials informed this reporter that the Home department has no such information regarding these two persons, but the department along with BSF is closely monitoring the bordering areas in Tripura.
