Agartala, 31st May 2025: In a decisive move against the narcotics trade, Battala Outpost Police in coordination with West Agartala Police arrested two drug peddlers from Battala market last night.
Speaking to the media personnel here, SDPO Debaprasad Roy stated that the operation was a follow-up to an earlier arrest on April 4, when police arrested one Mangaldeep and seized a significant quantity of narcotics from him. However, his associate had escaped at the time.
“Acting on a reliable tip-off, our teams intensified surveillance in the Battala area. Around 9 PM yesterday, we managed to arrest Gopal Das, who was found in possession of 210 vials of brown sugar worth approximately Rs 25,000,” said SDPO Roy.
Alongside Gopal Das, police also arrested another suspected peddler Rakesh Debnath from the same location.
Both accused were taken to the West Agartala Police Station for interrogation and will be produced before the court on Saturday for remand.
SDPO Roy highlighted that the arrests are a part of an ongoing campaign to root out the drug menace from Tripura. “Our mission is to make Tripura drug-free. These arrests will help us reach the wider network involved in this illegal trade,” he added.
