Two held with heroin worth Rs 2 lakh at Tripura-Mizoram border

Agartala, 2nd November 2025 :  Damcherra Police Station staff in North Tripura has arrested two suspected drug traffickers during a routine vehicle check near the Dasarath Bridge checkpoint along the Tripura-Mizoram border.

The operation led by Sub-Inspector Sanjit Tripura resulted in the interception of a scooter bearing registration number MZ08 6602 arriving from Mizoram. Upon inspection, officers discovered 26 grams of heroin concealed inside two soap cases hidden within the scooter’s toolbox. The seized narcotics are estimated to have a market value of approximately Rs 2 lakh.

The accused have been identified as Abu Rajaul Karim (25) and Altaf Hossain (40), both residents of Assam. Alongside the heroin, police confiscated the scooter and two mobile phones believed to be linked to the trafficking operation.

Speaking on the incident, OC Sanjay Majumdar stated that surveillance along the border has been intensified to curb illegal drug trafficking. A case has been registered under the NDPS Act and further investigation is underway.
